Platybunus C.L. Koch, 1839 is a large genus in the family Phalangiidae, subfamily Platybuninae.
Abbreviated logonymy from WCO[]
• Platybunus C.L. Koch 1839c: 26 [1]. Type-species by ICZN ruling (1972): Opilio bucephalus C.L. Koch, 1835.
• Platylophus C.L. Koch 1839c: 28 [junior homonym of Platylophus Swainson, 1832 (Aves), first noted by Simon (1879b: 219), who substituted the synonym Platybunus; senior objective synonym of Platybunus C.L. Koch 1839 by L. Koch (1869: 166). The synonymy was originally subjective. L. Koch, as first reviser (ICZN Code Art. 24), gave Platylophus C.L. Koch priority, but the discovery that it was preoccupied necessitated replacement by Platybunus]. Type-species by subsequent designation of Thorell (1876a: 464): Opilio rufipes C.L. Koch, 1836 (= Opilio bucephalus C.L. Koch, 1835).
