William "Bill" Shear is a retired American arachnologist who also works on Diplopoda.
Notable contributions[]
Along with Martens, Shear brought cladistic analysis to the study of Opiliones in the 1980s. He produced seminal studies on Cyphophthalmi, Caddidae and Ischyropsalidoidea. He also did extensive taxonomic work on Ortholasmatinae.
