Zachaeus C.L.Koch, 1839 is a genus of Phalangiinae with 11 species.
Etymology[]
A “proper name” according to Koch, perhaps from Greek Zakchaios (Zacchaeus), a Biblical character [Crawford 1992]. Gender masculine.
Placement[]
Included in Opilionides by C.L. Koch (1839c). In Phalangiidae by Simon (1879b). In Phalangiinae by Roewer (1923), confirmed by Crawford (1992).
Remarks[]
Genus name first made available with a combined description [= first described as part of a single species description] (ICZN Art. 12b.6).
Type species[]
Zachaeus mordax C.L.Koch, 1839 - synonymized under Zachaeus crista (Brullé, 1832) by Simon, 1879. This synonymy was disclaimed by Kulczyński, 1903, but was followed by Roewer, 1911 and all later authors.
